Very reluctantly, because of the increased costs of insurance, food, and fuel, we have had to increase our prices for 2006. In all cases we have kept the increases to a minimum.

October 7 Valcour Island Trip - Lake Champlain and Hudson River Lighthouses |
|
Our proposed October 7th trip to Valcour Island in Lake Champlain has developed some thorny issues which need your immediate attention.
We had intended to be ferried over to Valcour Island by the “Weatherwax,” a small boat that would legally and safely
serve the purpose. Unfortunately, the “Weatherwax” has lost vital funding from the State of NY and is “out of business.” We investigated alternative water transportation to no avail; too large to dock, unlicensed etc., etc. Hence, we cannot get to Valcour Island.
Our recovery plan is to offer a similar bus trip to the same area with visits to selected lighthouses on Lake Champlain, other than Valcour Island. Since most of the ten Champlain lighthouses are privately held and/or not accessible we are left with the lighthouse at the Shelburne Museum (VT) and the lighthouse at Crown Point (NY). The latter is sited with the 18th century forts that played prominent roles in the French and Indian and Revolutionary Wars. Crown Point also has an interesting museum of the period.
For those of you already signed on and those with interest in this trip, it is imperative that we know of your interest in the revised program before we cancel bus and hotel reservations.
Please contact our office no later than August 15th with your comment or reservation. Call 631-477-4121 or e-mail us at Info@eastendlighthouses.org.
